Cystic Fibrosis is a relatively unknown disease to the common population but affects more than 30,000 children and adults in the United States. It is an inherited chronic condition caused by a defective gene that makes the body produce unusually thick mucus that clogs the lungs leading to life threatening lung infections and obstructs the pancreas and inhibits natural enzymes from helping the body absorb food.
Some symptoms include:
- Salty tasting skin
- Persistent cough
- Lung infections
- Shortness of breath
- Poor weight gain
Some history… in the 1950s, few children with CF lived through elementary school. With research advances and improved medical treatment, children and adults with CF can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s, and beyond.
In an effort to help those researching medical advances and treatments for Cystic Fibrosis, Pediatric and Sports Physical Therapy has teamed up with CrossFit Wylie to host the first annual CF4CF competition. A one day, two workout event, our competitors are going to leave it all on the floor to create more tomorrows. All proceeds will be going to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and we are very excited about the support we have received thus far.
